How to Resize Images for Online Upload Forms
Read the requirement first
Many upload forms specify both file size and allowed formats. A form might accept JPG under 2 MB, reject WEBP, or require a square profile image. Check those rules before editing so you do not create a file the form still refuses.
Resize before compressing
Large dimensions are the usual reason a photo fails a form. Resize the image to the required width or to a practical screen size, then compress it if the file is still too large. This keeps the image easier to inspect while removing wasted pixels.
Avoid unreadable documents
If you are resizing a document photo, keep text legible. Over-compressing an ID, certificate, receipt, or form scan can make names and numbers difficult to read. Preview the final download before submitting it.
Keep the original
Save the edited file as a copy with a clear name, such as passport-photo-under-2mb.jpg. Keep the original photo in case the form asks for a different size or your submission needs to be corrected.
